Calls for Submissions

So below are forthcoming anthologies I am currently reading stories AKA open calls for submission. When in doubt, email me.

I am always looking for gay- and lesbian-themed tales of the fantastic and strange for the annual anthologies, Wilde Stories and Heiresses of Russ. I am only seeking stories that were published in 2014. What do I mean by published--if the story appeared in print or online for the first time in 2014. I also edit Best Gay Stories, which is looking for quality gay male short fiction and creative non-fiction. Reprints must be under 10k word count and payment ranges from $25 to $100. Payment is upon publication. Deadlines for all three of these Year's Best books is April 1st, 2015.

All submissions must pass the Will Ludwigsen Foul-Mouthed Writer's Checklist. Honest. It may sound silly, but more than half the stories I receive do not pass and fail to engage me.

Please include in the body of the email what project you are submitting to. Also, I only read RTF files; DOC or DOCX files will be ignored. Submissions should be emailed to me at sberman8@yahoo.com unless specified otherwise.

The Engorged Book of Gay Vampire Stories

Vampires were one of the first monsters appropriated by gay men because of their sensuality and notions of eternal youth and beauty. The goal of this massive anthology to reprint 200k words of the finest gay-themed vampire fiction written.

I'm not seeking original fiction. Stories can be as brief as 1,000 words or as long as 10,000, but preference will be given to stories that fall in the middle of this word length. All the vampires and their victims and/or hunters must be gay men. Romantic or erotic stories are welcome as are horrific tales (we aim for a mix). Submissions must be sent as rtf files to sberman8@yahoo.com with the subject line ENGORGED. Feel free to query us. Deadline is August 1st, 2015. Payment will range from $25 to $50 a story, depending on length. Rights requested are for print and electronic releases.
